MOE tells principals to be prepared for adverse weather

The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion sent a memo to prin­ci­pals across the coun­try ad­vis­ing them to take pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sures at their schools for ad­verse weath­er con­di­tions due to the progress of an ac­tive trop­i­cal wave. 

De­tails be­low:

Prin­ci­pals are ad­vised that once the Trinidad and To­ba­go Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Ser­vice(TTMS) has is­sued an Ad­verse WeatherAlert- Yel­low Lev­el­or high­er for Trinidad and To­ba­go, schools are to pre­pare for ad­verse weath­er con­di­tions, due to the progress of an ac­tive trop­i­cal wave/hur­ri­cane. The fol­low­ing pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sures should be:  

* re­it­er­ate the pro­ce­dure for emer­gency dis­missal;  

* re­mind school per­son­nel do to be vig­i­lant about the pos­si­bil­i­ty of ris­ing flood wa­ters in flood-prone or low-ly­ing ar­eas;  

* en­sure all com­mu­ni­ca­tion pro­ce­dures are in place to quick­ly alert par­ents of school dis­missal;  

* ad­vise par­ents to arrange trans­port where pos­si­ble to col­lect their chil­dren from school so that they do not have to walk through flood wa­ters; and  

* ad­vise par­ents to al­so speak to their chil­dren about safe­ty in floods.   

School ad­min­is­tra­tors should mon­i­tor the ODPM and TTMS web­sites www’ od o t or https://www.metof­fice.Nov.tt ), and the Min­istry’s so­cial me­dia pro­files for weath­er fore­casts, alerts, warn­ings, guide­lines and can­cel­la­tions. Please see Ap­pen­dix 1 for fur­ther in­for­ma­tion.
